The brave man who went own the well to face the giant snake that bothered the people of Daura in the Hausa lands of Nigeria.
His name was Bayajidda.There was a snake, in the well of Daura called Sarki. It tormented the people and allowed them to draw water once a week. Bayajidda set out to kill the serpent when he arrived because he needed a drink. He beheaded it with the knife he had gotten from the blacksmiths after which he drank the water and put the head in a bag. The queen Magajiya Daurama offered sovereignty over half the town to him but he refused this offer and asked for her hand in marriage which she accepted out of gratitude for saving the people of Faith.
